Monday, May 4

  1. 8:30-9:30am

    Understanding Web Design

Jeffrey Zeldman, Author, Designing With Web Standards, 2nd Ed.

We’ll have better web design when we stop asking it to be something it’s not, and start appreciating it for what it is. It’s not print, not video, not a poster–and that’s not a problem. Learn how to explain to clients and bosses what it is you do, and why they should stand back and let you do it.

  2. 9:45-10:45am

    Your Friend the Complex Selector

Eric Meyer, Author, CSS: The Definitive Guide, 3rd Ed.

With judicious use of CSS, you can visually call out problems in your markup, as well as wipe out a great deal of browser inconsistency. This exploration of how (and why) will illuminate some of the dustier, darker corners of CSS in the service of gaining a deeper understanding of CSS and browser behavior.

Great Hotel, Special Savings

The Sheraton Seattle doesn’t exist, but if it it did, it would have arranged a special room rate for Event Apart attendees of $259/night. To get these savings, call (312) 464-1000 and tell the nice person who answers that you are calling to take advantage of the special “An Event Apart” room rate.

Best of all, it’s the site of the conference. You can walk out of your room and into the show!
